Taiwan is expected to welcome its ten millionth visitor this year. That’s the word from the transport ministry on Thursday.
The ministry says that as of Monday, Taiwan has seen 9.63 million visits from overseas this year. At this rate, it is estimated that this year’s ten millionth visitor to Taiwan will arrive between next Friday and Sunday.
Premier Mao Chi-kuo called the arrival of the 10 millionth visitor a milestone. Cabinet spokesman, Sun Lih-chyun gave the following statement on the Premier’s behalf.
“The number of visitors coming to Taiwan has been increasing quickly and steadily every year for several years thanks to the joint efforts of the central government, local governments, and the public," said Sun.
"The figure was over three million in 2008. This year, it’s going to exceed ten million. Our country is becoming a popular destination with more than ten million visitors a year. This is a significant milestone in the history of Taiwan tourism. We hope that the transportation ministry prepares well for welcoming the ten millionth visitor and shares the happiness and pride of the occasion with the public.”
Premier Mao Chi-kuo said Taiwan has often been recommended as a top destination in international media. He said National Geographic Magazine recently listed Taiwan as one of the world’s top 20 tourist destinations.
