Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen is calling on the ruling KMT to stop spreading rumors saying that she once profited from land speculation. Tsai was speaking Saturday at a campaign rally for a DPP legislative candidate in New Taipei City.
Tsai said the accusations are groundless, as the land sales, made around 20 years ago, are clearly recorded in official documents. She said that she was not personally involved in land transactions, and that she did not make astronomical profits or speculate in land deals.
The DPP presidential candidate said that the KMT accusations overstepped what she called “legal boundaries.” She urged DPP supporters to stand by her and not believe the accusations.
Meanwhile, KMT presidential candidate Eric Chu called on Tsai to clearly explain the land sale case to the nation.
