Taiwan’s former representative to the US, Joseph Wu, says that policymakers in the United States are concerned about conflict in the South China Sea.
Speaking at a press conference in Washington on Thursday, Wu said that American policymakers worry about the effect that conflict over disputed areas of the South China Sea could have of the region.
Wu’s remarks come days after a standoff between Chinese and Vietnamese ships in disputed waters. The South China Sea is a contested area, with Taiwan, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei claiming all or part of the sea.
