Vice Premier Chang San-cheng said all defense departments need to strengthen homeland security. They also need to raise public awareness about self-protection. Chang was speaking at the Cabinet on Wednesday.
Taiwan’s national flag showed up in a recent ISIS video. The terrorist state showed the flags of over 80 nations displayed in the video labeled as the global coalition against it. The threatening message has caused much anxiety over possible attacks on Taiwan soil.
The Cabinet said terrorist attacks have expanded in both scale and magnitude, and have raised security concerns around the globe. Though Taiwan has a relatively low possibility of sustaining attacks thanks to its peace-loving values, it is still important to deploy and enhance counter-measures against terrorist activities.
The Cabinet’s Office of Homeland Security urges all local governments to prepare crisis management measures. The year-end celebrations would cause increased traffic and crowd gathering in many locations, thus early planning is the key to prevent hazardous incidents.
