Business groups to question candidates in seminar series
Tsai Lien-sheng

Taiwan’s presidential and vice presidential candidates are set to answer questions in a series of seminars held by seven major business groups.

The first seminar on December 22 will feature the candidates from the Democratic Progressive Party. A seminar the following day will focus on the running mates from the People First Party and Minkuotang. The final seminar, on December 29, will feature the candidates from the ruling Kuomintang.

One of the business groups behind the seminars is the Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI), which represents many manufacturing businesses in Taiwan. The federation’s secretary-general, Tsai Lien-sheng, said the candidates will be asked why they are running for office, their policies, and how they’ll lead the country out of its economic woes. He said they are looking for specifics such as whether the candidates support joining regional economic organizations.

Other topics of interest will include how the candidates will maintain cross-strait peace, their energy policies, and the recent hot button issue of whether Taiwan’s IC design industry should open up to Chinese investment.
