Gov’t to issue report on disabled rights: Ma
Ma on disabled rights
President Ma Ying-jeou says that the government will issue a report on disabled rights in 2017.

Ma was speaking in Taipei Thursday at a conference on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

He said that though Taiwan lost its UN membership in 1971, it has worked to incorporate the provisions of UN charters into domestic laws. The provisions of the CRPD entered into force last year in Taiwan. He said that the government will produce a report on disabled rights once every four years, beginning in 2017.

Ma said that not enough has been done in a number of areas. These include a lack of wheelchair accessible buses and other accessible facilities. The president said that the government must continue working to address these issues.

Ma said that the CRPD is the sixth UN convention implemented in Taiwan during his term in office.
