Taiwan is expecting its ten millionth visitor of the year this weekend. That’s the word from the transportation minister Chen Jian-yu on Thursday.
Chen said the Tourism Bureau has prepared 100 gifts for the ten millionth visitor to celebrate this milestone. He also spoke about the future prospects of tourism in Taiwan.
Chen said Taiwan expects to see 10.3 million arrivals from overseas this year. This number is expected to grow to 10.75 million next year.
Over 50% of Japanese and US visitors to Taiwan have come back a second time. The same is true for more than 40% of visitors from Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore, and for around 70% of visitors from Hong Kong and Macau. However, only around 11% of Chinese visitors and 15% of Korean visitors have come to Taiwan more than once.
