The Central Election Commission has officially announced the list of presidential candidates running in the January 16 election. The announcement, made Friday, also includes a list of each candidate’s confirmed running mate.
The campaign period formally begins December 19 and ends January 15. Campaign activities will only be allowed between 7am and 10pm.
On the Kuomintang ballot are New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu and his running mate, former Labor Minister Wang Ju-hsuan. The Democratic Progressive Party hopeful is the party’s chairperson Tsai Ing-wen and her running mate, former Health Minister Chen Chien-jen. The third candidate is James Soong of the People First Party, who is running on a ticket with Hsu Hsin-ying of the Minkuotang, a party formed earlier this year.
