Eric Chu vows to reboot economy if elected

KMT presidential candidate Eric Chu says he will reboot the economy if he is elected. Chu was speaking Saturday at a campaign rally for a KMT legislative candidate.

Chu said since taking up the reins of the ruling KMT in mid-January, he has proposed pay hikes for workers and tax cuts for the businesses. He said that although government revenues will fall, the moves will stimulate domestic consumption and help create a better economic future.

Chu also accused the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of isolating Taiwan from China and blocking the statutes governing the Free Economic Pilot Zones (FEPZs). He said cross-strait peace is a prerequisite for Taiwan’s economic development and that he will create a situation that is mutually beneficial for both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Meanwhile, DPP presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen says that the DPP will launch an Asian Silicon Valley Plan in Taoyuan City immediately if it takes power from the KMT next year.
