Taipei has made it on the lists of recommended 2016 destinations on two US-based travel guides.
The world’s largest publisher about travel, Fodor’s highlights Taipei as a modern Asian megalopolis that will be World Design Capital in 2016. It describes Taipei as "a buzzing, highly cosmopolitan city where giant modern skyscrapers tower over ancient temples, peaceful parks are juxtaposed with clamoring and chaotic markets, and cutting-edge hotels and nightlife spots pack in the glitz and glamour."
Fodor’s “Go List” of 25 destinations includes Cuba, Haiti, Lithuania, Nepal, The Philippines, Guam, Abu Dhabi and Ecuador.
The US-based travel magazine Travel & Leisure also highlights Taipei’s status as next year’s World Design Capital. It describes the yet to be completed Taipei Performing Arts Centre as "an arresting piece of contemporary architecture."
Besides Taipei, Travel & Leisure also recommends Hangzhou, China, Mie Prefecture in Japan, Costa Rica, Denmark, Casablanca, Havana and Guatemala.
