Foreign Minister attends SICA meeting
Foreign Minister David Lin in El Salvador
Foreign Minister David Lin has traveled to El Salvador to represent Taiwan at a meeting hosted by the Central American Integration System (SICA).
 
The meeting was held on December 17. Representatives from the foreign ministries of SICA member states and observers were in attendance. 
 
Taiwan was the first country outside of the America to be accorded observer status in SICA. All eight SICA members with the exception of Costa Rica have formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
 
During the meeting, Lin said that Taiwan and the countries of Central America share common values of freedom, democracy, and peace. He said that Taiwan and the countries of Central America enjoy close friendship and close cooperation. 
 
According to Lin, Taiwan has worked with SICA member states and SICA institutions on over 100 projects in the past 20 years. Lin said that these projects have benefited the people of Central America.
 
Lin said that SICA and Taiwan share common goals of achieving peace and sustainable development. He also asked that SICA members support Taiwan’s participation in international organizations and forums.
