Passport stickers could lead to denial of entry into US

Taiwan’s representative office in the US is warning that the US may refuse entry to Taiwanese nationals who place stickers reading “Republic of Taiwan” on their passports.

The US Congress recently passed a law strengthening anti-terror measures aimed at the nationals of Visa Waiver Program countries. The US will evaluate the 38 countries in the program, looking at entry refusal rates and each country’s ability to stop its passports from being forged or altered.

Taiwan’s representative office in the US says that Taiwan’s ability to stop alterations to its passports will come into question if Taiwanese nationals continue to place “Republic of Taiwan” stickers on their passports. The office says that Taiwan could even be removed from the program entirely as a result.
