The transportation ministry’s i3 Travel project has won a gold award from APEC’s Energy Smart Community Initiatives (ESCI.) The i3 Travel project is a smart tourism project that includes a series of innovative, intelligent, and interesting ways of traveling, with partnerships between public and private sectors.
According to deputy transportation minister Fan Chih-ku, the project integrates low-carbon tourism and smart transportation management systems and promotes local shops through a digital platform developed by the Industrial Technology Research Institute.
Fan said the low-carbon tourism project set to take place at central Taiwan’s Sun Moon Lake transformed traditional tourism by making travel there more intelligent and eco-friendly.
ESCI was launched in 2010 by U.S. President Barack Obama and former Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan.
