President Ma Ying-jeou says that an influx of tourists visiting Taiwan shows that the island is on the right track thanks to government policies. Ma made the statement in a Facebook post Saturday.
Ma said that the number of tourist visits since the beginning of the year broke 10 million on December 20. Ma also said that tourist arrivals grew by a million every year from 2010 to 2014.
The president attributed the increase to his policy of cross-strait peace and his administration’s efforts to promote and open up Taiwan to the international community. Ma said that Taiwan has stopped isolating itself from the rest of the world since he took office.
Ma said that this year, UK-based consulting firm Skytrax placed Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at the top in several categories of its annual airport rankings. Skytrax declared Taoyuan’s staff the best of any airport in the world. In August, Airports Council International (ACI) also declared Taoyuan the world’s most efficient airport of the year. Ma said the airport has become another “Light of Taiwan”.
