The education ministry says that starting next year more vocational college graduates from China will be eligible to study in Taiwan.
Back in 2013, Taiwan’s education ministry started recruiting Chinese vocational school graduates for two-year “College-to-University” programs. But they only managed to recruit around 80 students each year because China limited recruitment to just 17 schools in provinces near Taiwan.
In a high profile meeting in November, President Ma Ying-jeou called on his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, to raise the limit. That prompted the education ministries on both sides to begin negotiations on the issue.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Education said Monday that starting next year China will open recruitment up to 81 colleges, including schools in Beijing and Shanghai.
The “College-to-University” program will begin accepting applications in February, 2016.
