Vice Premier Chang San-cheng is calling on Taiwan’s information and communications technology (ICT) sector to take the initiative in promoting the government’s “Productivity 4.0” plan. He was speaking Monday at an event marking the launch of a group that will help provide cross-industry services to companies implementing the plan.
“Productivity 4.0” aims to strengthen Taiwan’s productivity in the agriculture, business, and manufacturing sectors. It involves ICT, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Chang spoke on Monday about why the ICT sector should take the lead.
"I believe the ICT sector should take the first step because there will be short-term business opportunities for that industry," said Chang. "The manufacturing, agriculture and business industries will have long-term opportunities to transform [themselves]."
The new cross-industry services will offer solutions and a platform for a number of different industries, including: textiles, science and technology, food, mechanics, metals processing, transportation equipment, retail logistics, and agriculture.
