Three countries are set to relax their visa requirements for Taiwanese passport holders.
According to a foreign ministry announcement Wednesday, the new visa rules will go into effect January 1. Chile will be removing all visa requirements for Taiwanese tourists. Meanwhile, Uzbekistan will begin offering visas on arrival to Taiwanese travelers, and Rwanda plans to open its electronic visa program to visitors from Taiwan.
With the new rules, the number of countries and territories offering Taiwanese passport holders visa-free travel or visas on arrival will be 161. Foreign Minister David Lin said Wednesday his ministry is also finalizing similar visa agreements with other countries and territories. He said he hopes to see these agreements take effect in early 2016.
