A member of Taiwan’s top research institute, Academia Sinica, is set to receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation in the US. That’s the word from Academia Sinica on Thursday.
Calvin Hu is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley. He was the first chief technology officer for the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.
The BSIM transistor model that Hu co-developed went on to become an industry standard. Hu’s 3D FinFET transistor structure is now widely used by Apple and South Korea’s Samsung Group.
The National Medal of Technology and Innovation is an annual award given to those who contribute to the development of new technology. US President Barack Obama will present the medals to this year’s recipients at the White House in January.
