Gov’t raises quota on Chinese spouse children from past marriages

The government has raised the entry quota on the number of children born to Chinese spouses in previous marriage.

Chinese who marry Taiwanese and settle in Taiwan are allowed to apply to have their non-Taiwanese children from previous marriages join them. However, with the annual quota on the number of these children allowed to come to Taiwan set at 180, waiting lists grew to be around ten years long.

A newly raised quota of 300 per year took affect Thursday. The new quota is expected to bring waiting times down to six years.
