The Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) has announced that the cross-strait aviation safety agreement has taken effect. The agreement will serve as the basis for cross-strait aviation safety and for cross-strait travelers’ personal safety.
The SEF said Thursday that there are now 890 routine cross-strait flights every week. The SEF says the safety agreement will facilitate inspections and maintenance, and also strengthen in-flight safety.
According to the SEF, the two sides will now be able to establish a reporting system for aviation safety related issues, as well as prevention and control mechanisms so as to reduce the impact of accidents.
Taiwan’s top China policymaker Andrew Hsia says that the agreement was signed in August and submitted to the legislature in September.
