Taiwan’s three presidential candidates are set to hold their second and final debate before this month’s election.
The debate is scheduled to air at 2:00 PM Taiwan Time on Saturday, two weeks before the election. In addition to questions from the moderator, candidates will also be answering six questions fielded by members of the public.
This year’s election season has seen one debate and two platform presentations. Platform presentations are organized by the Central Election Commission and do not involve any debating.
KMT candidate Eric Chu had requested that the final platform presentation for presidential candidates be turned into a debate. People First Party candidate James Soong voiced his support for Chu’s request. However, the Central Election Commission denied the request, saying that debates are organized privately by media organizations.
Saturday’s broadcast will therefore be the last chance the three candidates will get to debate one another.
