Presidential candidate Eric Chu from the ruling party – the Kuomintang (KMT) – on Sunday called on his main opponent, the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) Tsai Ing-wen, to clarify her positions on the issues.
Chu’s remarks came one day after the three presidential candidates faced off in their second and final debate.
An opinion poll by Yahoo News found that 27% of voters had changed their opinions following the debate, with Tsai losing more support than the other two candidates. Chu responded to the poll saying that what voters want is clear answers. He called on Tsai to clarify her positions. He also called on undecided voters to come out and vote in the elections on January 16.
The Yahoo News poll found that among respondents, Chu had 42% support, followed by Tsai with 32% support. The People First Party’s (PFP) James Soong had 24% support in that poll.
However, a poll by a leading TV station – TVBS – found that Tsai still had a 20% edge over Chu.
