The foreign ministry has decided to hold a meeting about comfort women on Tuesday, one day earlier than originally scheduled.
Taiwan is demanding that Japan issue a formal apology and compensate Taiwanese comfort women who were forced into sex slavery during WWII.
The government is planning to hold talks with Japan this month and Tuesday’s meeting is aimed at first reaching a consensus.
Officials from the Taipei City Government, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Cabinet’s Gender Equality Committee, and representatives from the Taipei Women’s Rescue Foundation are set to attend the meeting.
Only four Taiwanese comfort women are still alive Taiwan.
