Taiwan's foreign minister David Lin met with the Japanese representative to Taiwan Numata Mikio to ask for an apology from the Japanese government to Taiwan's former comfort women. Comfort women is the name for women Japan had forced to be sex slaves in World War II
Lin also asked that the Japanese government make reparations, restore former comfort women’s honor and dignity, and provide for their care.
A working group called together by Taiwan’s foreign ministry came up with the four demands which were presented to Japan's representative on Wednesday.
Mikio said he would present the requests to Japan's government. Taiwan officials have been asking for an apology and other reparations from Japan's government after hearing Japan and South Korea reached an agreement on Korean comfort women in December.
