The cross-strait trade in goods agreement is being treated in line with a draft law on supervising cross-strait agreements. That’s according to Cabinet Spokesman Sun Lih-chyun.
Sun was speaking Thursday, as representatives from Taiwan and Mainland China began technical consultations on the agreement in Beijing.
He said that the legislature will be briefed on the agreement both before and after it is signed. The legislature will also review the agreement once it is finalized. Sun said that though the bill on monitoring cross-strait agreements has not passed, the trade in goods agreement will still require legislative approval.
Sun said this disproves claims in Taiwan’s media that the agreement is being forced through in an underhanded way or that it is being rushed as next week’s elections approach.
