Mainland China has announced that it will allow residents of Nanchang, Kunming, and Chongqing to transit through Taiwanese airports on a trial basis.
Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council Lin Chu-chia said Thursday that the move will be beneficial for both Mainland China and Taiwan. He said that the Mainland Affairs Council hopes to see travelers from the three Mainland cities transiting through Taiwanese airports as soon as possible.
Lin said that the Mainland had made the decision unilaterally, without any discussion with Taiwanese officials.
