The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) is calling for an overnight cold snap in northern Taiwan from Friday night into Saturday morning.
Temperatures could fall to 13C as a northeast monsoon over Taiwan reaches peak strength. Temperatures in the central and southern parts of the island are also expected to be low overnight and into the morning.
The CWB announcement comes after Yushan, Taiwan’s highest peak, recorded its second snowfall of the year early Friday morning.
Temperatures are expected to rise again on Sunday, six days before Taiwanese voters go to the polls. As the amount of moisture in the air falls, temperatures in the north will reach 21-22C, while the center and south will see temperatures of 24-26C.
