Both the ruling KMT and opposition DPP are set for a pre-election “golden week” of final campaigning before the January 16 election.
The KMT has planned a parade with ten thousand participants for Saturday, while the DPP will hold street campaigns across Taiwan.
KMT Presidential candidate Eric Chu will join his party’s parade alongside other high ranking KMT members. Pig farmers will join the parade to show concern about the possibility the DPP will allow imports of American pork containing leanness enhancing drug ractopamine.
The KMT says both Chu and President Ma Ying-jeou will be in the parade through the whole route before addressing participants in Liberty Square.
Meanwhile, the DPP will launch a campaign called “Light Up Taiwan”, greeting people and garnering support. DPP presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen said Friday that she encourages party supporters to help out during the last week before the general election.
