On this day in 1973, Soviet space mission Luna 21 was launched.

On this day in 2002, President George W. Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind Act. The act set out mandatory education assessment for all secondary school students in the country.

On this day in 2005, the nuclear sub USS San Francisco collided at full speed with an undersea mountain south of Guam. One man was killed, but the sub surfaced and was repaired.
