On this day in 1929, the world's first training center for guide dogs for the blind was established in Nashville, Tennessee.

On this day in 1933, students of a Japanese girl's college committed suicide en masse at Mt. Mihara on Oshima Island. Up to the end of that year, a total of 804 male and 1,104 female students throughout the country followed suit.
