The Tourism Bureau’s New York office has hung sky lanterns at the New York Times Travel Show. The bureau aims to boost Taiwan’s position on the North American tourism market. The New York Times Travel Show, the largest of its kind in North America, is taking place in New York City through Sunday.

Alongside Canada, South Africa, and Turkey, Taiwan is one of the main sponsors of this year’s fair. The sky lanterns are right at the entrance to the Taiwan booth, demonstrating the country’s unique culture.

Taiwan’s contributions to the fair include performances of modern dance with a Taiwanese touch and the country’s well-known drink, bubble tea.

2015 was a landmark year for overseas tourism to Taiwan, with overseas arrivals breaking the 10 million mark. CNN listed Taiwan as one of its top 16 places to visit in 2016, while Lonely Planet named Taiwan one of the best destinations of 2015.
