DPP presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen has begun a week of street campaigning across Taiwan in the run up to next Saturday’s elections.

The campaign kicked off in Pingtung County, southern Taiwan, where Tsai originally comes from. Tsai’s campaign will cover Taiwan from south to north- the south is often seen as a DPP stronghold. The campaign began on the same day that the DPP’s main rival, the KMT, held a parade through Taipei, in the north of Taiwan.

Tsai spoke to supporters at a local temple in her hometown. She said she began her 2012 presidential campaign in her hometown. She said this year the campaign must also start from the same place.

Tsai encouraged her hometown supporters to cast their ballots for the three local DPP legislative candidates.
