The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has announced the implementation of an electronic visa (eVisa) application system. The ministry said Tuesday that the system will benefit citizens of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies and countries that have signed mutual visa-related agreements with Taiwan.

Foreign ministry official Luo Tien-hung spoke about the significance of the new measure.

Luo said, “The measure will help boost overseas travelers’ visits to Taiwan. The foreign ministry will evaluate the results and effectiveness of the first stage, and how other countries improve their visa systems for us. We’ll discuss with other government agencies to see if the system will be applied to other countries.”

Luo said that in the first stage, travelers from the designated countries will only be allowed to apply for eVisas for the purposes of business travel, tourism, short visits to relatives and participation in international conferences. They will be allowed to stay up to 30 days.
