Taiwan is planning to boost tourism using cross-border e-commerce.

Representatives from the economics ministry, transportation ministry, the Financial Supervisory Commission, and the agriculture council met at the Cabinet Thursday to create an island-wide, cross business service platform.

The Industrial Development Bureau said that the platform will combine restaurants, hotels, cosmetic surgery, wholesalers, logistics and transportation businesses to create an e-commerce platform in the tourism industry.

Cabinet official Jaclyn Tsai said that Taiwan saw 10 millionth visitor last year. Tsai said she hopes that travelers can continue to purchase Taiwanese products online after they return to their countries.

In the future, travelers will be able to make hotel and restaurant reservations, map out their itinerary and other such arrangements online before arriving in Taiwan.
