The White House says that it will work closely with the winner of Taiwan’s upcoming presidential election.
The White House’s deputy national security chief, Ben Rhodes, said Wednesday that the US respects the election’s outcome. He also said that the United States’ Taiwan policy and its One China Policy will not change.
Rhodes also said that the US supports good cross-strait relations and believes that an escalation of tensions would not benefit either side of the strait. He said that the US hopes instead for “calm and dialogue”.
