DPP presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen says she will maintain cross-strait stability if elected. Tsai was speaking Thursday as she began a second round of campaigning across Taiwan in the run-up to Saturday’s general elections.
Tsai elaborated on her China policy.
"As soon as I’m elected, I’ll start communicating with the international community right away- including with our diplomatic allies, including China- to stabilize the post-election political situation," Tsai said. "I believe cross-strait stability is everyone’s common interest. I hope that after the election, everyone can sit down and communicate clearly in order to maintain overall stability."
Meanwhile, Tsai said that her opponent, KMT presidential candidate Eric Chu, is running a negative campaign. Tsai said false stories spread about her by her opponents do harm to Taiwan’s democracy. She urged voters to remove the KMT from power and let them reflect on their mistakes.
