A National Police Agency investigation has found that a threat made against DPP presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen was a false alarm. Tsai received the threat Wednesday night during a campaign stop in Taichung. The police agency has asked Tsai to wear a bullet-proof vest and to avoid big entrances into campaign venues as a precaution.
Chief of the police agency, Chen Kuo-en said Thursday that there are five big campaigns scheduled for Friday evening, the final night before the election. Chen said that police are heightening security measures at campaigns involving Tsai Ing-wen and her opponent, KMT candidate Eric Chu.
There will be close to 16,000 voting polls set up around Taiwan on Saturday. The police agency will be deploying 40,000 policemen to watch the polls during the elections.
