The US State department has congratulated Taiwan’s president-elect, Tsai Ing-wen from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), on her victory. US State Department spokesperson John Kirby issued the congratulatory message on Saturday on behalf of the US government.
The US also congratulated the people of Taiwan for demonstrating the strength of their robust democratic system, which will now undergo another peaceful transition of power.
Kirby said the US shares with the Taiwan people a profound interest in the continuation of cross-strait peace and stability. He also said the US looks forward to working with Tsai and Taiwan’s leaders of all parties to advance common interests.
Meanwhile, the US thanked President Ma Ying-jeou for his efforts in developing a strong partnership with the US and lauded the concrete steps he has taken to improve cross-Strait ties in recent years.
