President Ma Ying-jeou has congratulated President-elect Tsai Ing-wen on her stunning victory on Saturday. That’s the word from Presidential Office Spokesman Charles Chen on Saturday night.
In a telephone call to Tsai, Ma urged her to continue maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
Ma also invited Tsai to the presidential office to discuss the appointment of the next premier.
Ma said that with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) winning a majority of the seats in the legislature, he hoped that Tsai would appoint a premier who has the support of most of the legislators. The president said the move was aimed at maintaining political stability and harmony in Taiwan, and at the same time avoiding inaction.
