Premier Mao Chi-Kuo said on Sunday that he and the entire Cabinet will resign on Monday afternoon. He said they would then wait for directions from President Ma Ying-jeou.
The premier made the statement after the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) won an overwhelming victory in the presidential and legislative elections on Saturday. President-elect Tsai Ing-wen takes office on May 20.
Premier Mao said that the next few months will be an important time for Taiwan. He said the government should avoid a situation in which the Cabinet is unable to make important decisions during the transition period.
