Many nations have officially congratulated Taiwan’s President-elect Tsai Ing-wen for her landslide victory on Saturday.
The United States, Canada, Japan, German, France, Singapore and Australia have all officially congratulated Tsai on her victory. Of the countries with diplomatic ties with Taiwan, 11 countries, including Panama, Nicaragua, Tuvalu and El Salvador have congratulated Tsai as well.
Other countries, including Belgium, Italy, South Korea and other nations have expressed their congratulations through formal announcements, phone calls, official letters, and via the internet.
Foreign Minister David Lin said that the Central Election Commission will meet with foreign representatives on Tuesday to give a rundown of the election results.
