Tsai to report on election to DPP’s central standing committee

President-elect Tsai Ing-wen hit the ground running on Monday after her landslide victory in Saturday’s election. Tsai, who is also chairwoman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), met with US envoy William Burns at party headquarters in the morning.

Burns said the United States hopes to see a smooth transfer of power when Tsai takes office in May, and they look to further collaborate with the new administration. Tsai said she will uphold Taiwan’s close relationship with the United States and take responsibility in maintaining regional peace.

Tsai is also scheduled to meet with a number of other foreign officials in the coming days.

DPP spokesperson Wong Min-sheng spoke on Monday about the president-elect’s plans for the next several days.

“Chairwoman Tsai needs to lay a lot of groundwork before we take office, and these things will keep her very busy. Everybody knows that according to our public schedule, the first central standing committee meeting is scheduled for three days after the election," said Wong.

"Chairwoman Tsai will also address the public again," he said. "She will express her own views [on future policies] and thank the Taiwanese people for their support. She will also report on the election results to the central standing committee.”
