Taiwan will suspend negotiations on the trade in goods agreement with China. That’s the word from the Economics Minister John Deng on Monday after the Cabinet resigned en masse. A new Cabinet is expected since Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) won a landslide victory in both the presidential and legislative elections last Saturday.
DPP Spokesman Yang Chia-liang said Tuesday that the deliberation of the bill for monitoring cross-strait agreements will take place after a new legislature is formed. Only then will the talks on the cross-strait goods agreement resume.
Meanwhile, Cabinet officials complain how the DPP does not intend to form the new Cabinet any time soon. That means no new policies can be made until the new president takes office in May. Yang said the most important job of the government now is stability and watching over the current responsibilities of the government.
