Chang Yung-fa, the founder of Taiwan’s Evergreen Group, passed away on Wednesday. He was 90. Authorities at the ports of Los Angeles and Oakland sent their condolences and praised Chang for his contribution to the world’s shipping industry.
Media Relations Manager for the Port of Los Angeles Rachel Campbell, said that Evergreen has been the port’s largest client for decades. She said the Port of Los Angeles is the biggest trading port in North America and that its success can be attributed to its close business relations with Evergreen.
Joseph Ma of Taiwan’s representative office in San Francisco said that local businessmen held Chang in high esteem. That’s because Evergreen Marine Corp. has the biggest share in the North American shipping market and is North America’s number one container company in volume.
Ma said that Evergreen has made great contributions to trade between Taiwan and the US.
