Teachers say English reading section of exam too difficult
Gear up

A group representing high school English teachers says the reading section of this year's high school English test is too difficult. The English proficiency section of Taiwan's annual high school exams was held Saturday.

According to the group, the reading passages have little to do with students' lives, and may cover unfamiliar topics. The group also says that the reading comprehension questions focus on small details.

One test-taker says the test covered topics including biology and international issues. He said that while the level of vocabulary in the passages was not too difficult, the reading comprehension questions required test-takers to read closely to answer.

Topics covered in the articles included Japan’s blood-type craze, the invention of the Kiddie Stool, how Middle Eastern conflicts prevent children from attending school, and research on sea snakes.
