Vice Premier Chang San-cheng has called on government agencies to take action to deal with the record-breaking cold weather and snow.
Cabinet spokesman Sun Lih-chyun spoke on Sunday about the ways in which the government is dealing with the inclement weather. He said that the Cabinet has called on the health ministry to provide hot food, warm clothing and shelter for homeless people. The ministry is reminding people to take precautions to stay warm, especially people with high blood pressure and those with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
The Cabinet has also instructed the transportation ministry to take special note of the crowds of people who are driving into mountainous areas to view the snow. The ministry is reminding drivers to cautiously monitor road conditions in the mountains, saying that the snow can make for slippery roads or even icy surfaces.
Meanwhile, the agriculture ministry says that it’s monitoring crop losses, and will offer relief to farmers. If necessary, the ministry says it will also set up an emergency response team or a central disaster response center if the need arises.
