President-elect Tsai Ing-wen is calling on the new premier to do a good job during the transition period between two administrations. Tsai was speaking Tuesday.
President Ma Ying-jeou has already approved Premier Mao Chi-kuo’s resignation and appointed Vice Premier Chang San-cheng as his replacement.
Tsai is the chairwoman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). She said the DPP will help the Ma administration, be it a caretaker government or a transitional one, to maintain stability.
“I hope Premier Chang will lead the administration in doing what it should do by maintaining normal government operations and political stability," said Tsai.
"They are the responsibility of the Ma administration. We will also assist in government operations to stabilize the political situation. [I] hope the government will do what it should do.”
Tsai also asked newly-elected DPP lawmakers to assist and monitor the government before she takes office in May.
