Economics Minister John Deng says that the timing of the next round of talks on the cross-strait trade in goods agreement will depend on China. Deng was speaking Wednesday at the launch of an office working to further Taiwan’s bid to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
He was asked whether the next round of talks might take place before the current administration leaves office on May 20. Deng said that it is difficult to judge when talks might take place. He said that he will discuss the issue further with the Mainland Affairs Council.
Meanwhile, Deng said the process of considering whether to allow Chinese investment in the integrated circuit design industry will continue. He said that efforts to join the TPP will continue as well.
