President-elect Tsai Ing-wen has told a group of visiting Japanese lawmakers that she will work towards closer trade ties with Japan. Tsais met with Japanese parliamentarians Keiji Furuya, Taimei Yamaguchi and Minoru Kihara.
During her meeting with the visiting lawmakers on Wednesday, Tsai said her first priority as president will be to work for economic growth and the transformation of local industries. Some of her main goals include expanding trade, joining TPP talks, and working towards aneconomic agreement with Japan.
Tsai said she plans to set up an ad hoc group that will focus on expanding Taiwan’s trade. She will also establish platforms to help companies of all sizes in Japan and Taiwan develop exchanges and opportunities to work together.
