Passenger volume at Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport reached 38.47 million last year, setting a new record. That’s an annual growth of 7.45 percent.
Part of the increase comes from the addition of four airlines to the list of carriers offering service to Taoyuan. Thailand’s NokScoot, Turkish Airlines, Korea’s Jeju Air and Jetstar Japan all introduced service to the airport last year. New routes to cities such as Istanbul, Houston, and Melbourne have also brought more travelers to Taiwan’s main international airport.
Operating with only one runway last year, the airport managed to handle 221,000 flights, an annual growth of 5.9%. Restoration of the second runway has just been completed. The airport will be carrying out expansion of its Terminal 2 starting April, while working out the design for a future Terminal 3.
